FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — West Virginia leaders gathered on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the communities hit by an EF-2 tornado in Fayette County last week.

Governor Jim Justice and state and local officials were boots on the ground to survey the damage done where the tornado touched down. They assessed damage done to structures, roads, and homes near Lookout Road and Mallard Road.

Governor Justice said this situation exposed the state’s need for more federal dollars for disaster relief. He added that losing a home in this kind of disaster takes him back to an extremely hard time this region once faced.

It’s another chapter in the horror story of what bad weather can do in this state. As long as I live I’ll never forget anything that was tougher than the 2016 flood, but for one home, one family, it’s just as tough.”

Gov. Jim Justice

Justice added that despite the damage done last week, West Virginians have once again pulled together with neighbor helping neighbor.
