Governor Justice declares State of Emergency for Fayette, Nicholas, Kanawha, and Lincoln counties

CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS) — A State of Emergency for four counties in West Virginia was declared by Governor Justice.

More than 16,000 people without power in Fayette County

The State of Emergency was declared for Fayette, Nicholas, Kanawha, and Lincoln Counties as a result of severe thunderstorms that included high winds, power outages, downed trees, flooding, and road blockages.

The declaration allows resources and emergency response efforts to go where they are needed, and lets both Local and State agencies to take quick action when dealing with try and reduce the impact of the storms, while also protecting the people in the state and their property.

Multiple incidents cause traffic delays on Route 19 in Fayette County

Governor Justice advised residents to keep an eye out and to make sure they have multiple ways to get emergency alerts, and to watch local media and official emergency management accounts for any updates.

The State of Preparedness that Governor Justice issued for all 55 counties in West Virginia is still in effect.
