TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Governor Ron DeSantis announced he has approved $1.5 billion in the 2024-2025 fiscal budget for restoration of the Everglades and water quality improvement.

The funding brings Florida’s total financial commitment to Everglades restoration and water quality to $6.5 billion since 2019, the Governor’s Office said.

“I am proud to continue making these investments in Everglades restoration and water quality that will benefit our state for decades to come,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “I made a promise to Floridians that we would leave this state better to God than we found it, and we are doing that for our future and our children’s future.”

Of the $1.5 billion, approximately $850 million will go towards Everglades restoration projects and $530 million will go toward targeted water quality improvement projects, the governor said.

DeSantis also announced Florida has completed or broken ground on 70 different restoration projects for the state, including Everglades restoration.

DeSantis said the state wants to encourage the use of natural resources without ruining those resources for future generations.
