Google has fixed the big problem with its tablet, and now I would buy one

I would buy this Google Pixel Tablet dealJason Murdock

Google Pixel has been the talk of the town recently, mostly because it just released its latest budget smartphone, the Google Pixel 8a. But Google doesn't just make some of the best phones, it also dabbles in Android tablets.

In 2023, Google launched the Pixel Tablet — a slate that comes with a dock to transform it into a smart display when you aren't using it. Unfortunately, it came at a hefty price of £699 and there was no option to buy it without the dock for less cash. Until now.

Google has just started selling the Pixel Tablet on Amazon without the dock for £399 and to make the deal even sweeter, you can grab a pair of free Pixel Buds A-Series (worth £109) to go alongside it. This is such a good deal that I would actually buy it now where I wouldn't have splashed out on it before.

Why I would buy the Google Pixel tablet

The Google Pixel Tablet is a very capable slate, even without the extra perk of the docking station. It has a 10.95-inch screen with a resolution of 1600 x 2560, it uses the Google Tensor G2 chipset (the same one found in the Google Pixel 7 Pro flagship smartphone), it weighs 493g which makes it feel light and portable, and you'll get a decent camera for making video calls.

In the Pixel Tablet review, we described the screen as being “bright, colourful and responsive” despite it only using LCD tech and being limited to a 60Hz refresh rate. You'll be able to watch even the darkest of shows on the best streaming services like Game of Thrones or Black Mirror.

Like all Pixel devices, the Tablet is loaded with Android — in this case Android 13 but you can update it to Android 14 when you first take it out of the box. There are plenty of smarts included too, like Google Assistant, Live Translate and camera tools like the Magic Eraser to reposition and resize objects in your shots. For multitasking, you can split up the screen into two open windows. Plus it has Chromecast built-in so you can easily display content from your smartphone.

To add to that, the Pixel Tablet is speedy and Google claims the battery will last up to 12 hours of constant use.

Now that it's less than £400 with a free pair of Pixel Buds thrown in (worth £109) there's never been a better time to buy the Google Pixel Tablet.
