Golden Gate Ferry service between SF and Sausalito suspended indefinitely

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Golden Gate Ferry service between San Francisco and Sausalito has been suspended indefinitely due to an issue with the pier in Sausalito. Ferry service between the two destinations was abruptly suspended Friday due to a structural compromise of the pier, Golden Gate Ferry said.

The problem with the pier was discovered Friday during a routine inspection, according to the ferry service. Damage was discovered on one of the pier’s four piles.

“Out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of our customers, all Sausalito ferry service was suspended until repairs to the pier could be made,” said an update on the Golden Gate Ferry website.

Work to repair the pier began over the weekend, the ferry service said, and is expected to be completed later this week. Once repairs are complete, the pier will be reinspected before ferry service resumes.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and thank them for their patience as we work to repair the pier and restore service as quickly as possible,” the ferry service said.

Ferry service between SF and Sausalito will be temporarily replaced by Golden Gate Transit buses.
