What’s going on at the OKC Zoo in June, July

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden has a “wild summer” planned.

According to the OKC Zoo, there are events planned for the months of June and July for visitors of all ages.

JUNE

On Saturday, June 1, the Zoo is hosting World Giraffe Day activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests can visit Expedition Africa to learn more about the tallest residents at the Zoo with their caretakers. World Giraffe Day activities also include enrichment and more. Activities are free with admission.

On Monday, June 3, Read for Adventure begins. Public libraries across Oklahoma will start the 2024-2025 Read for Adventure season. Those with library cards who check out the original kid’s book, “Juniper’s Butterfly Garden: A Small Start for a Better World”, from a participating public or tribal library will get a voucher for free admission to the Zoo for up to four people. On Saturday, June 8, there will be American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters at the OKC Zoo. According to the Zoo, ASL interpreters are available on the second Saturday, including June 8, of every month through October. They can be found at the elephant presentations, certain caretaker chats and scheduled Wild Encounter experiences.

Also on June 8, the Zoo is hosting the Community Fix-It and Flower Festival from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3748 N. Lincoln Blvd. in Oklahoma City. The first 100 guests will get a nectar plant, a milkweed pant, a grow bag and soil to help start or add to a pollinator garden. Other native plants will be available to purchase as well.

On Friday, June 14, 21, and 28, the Zoo is hosting its Sip and Stroll 21+ event from 6 to 10 p.m. 2024 marks the 5th season of Sip and Stroll with even more for guests to enjoy. With a variety of bars and food, Sip and Stroll allows attendees to enjoy their evening while giving back to conservation efforts. For tickets and food and drink packages, visit this link.

On Saturday, June 29-30, the Zoo is hosting Carnivore Conundrum Family Overnight from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. This event allows families to experience the Zoo in a different environment. There will be a guided twilight safari that highlights the Zoo’s residents after the sun sets. The event is $45 per person and it suggested for ages four and up. To learn more, visit this link.

JULY

On Monday, July 1, through Wednesday, July 31, the Zoo is challenging guests to the Plastic Free Ecochallenge to help reduce single-use plastic. The challenge aims at limiting items like grocery bags and coffee cups ending up in streams, rivers or lakes in Oklahoma. Click here to learn more.

Thursday, July 4, is a day of animal enrichment including water, mud and bubbles. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., caretakers will be providing treats and tasks for the animal to enjoy while staying cool in the heat.

On Saturday, July 6, there are International Cat Day events planned from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All of the Zoo’s felines will be in the spotlight as guests enjoy cat themed trivia, caretaker chats and more. The Oklahoma Zoological Society is even raising money with lion and tiger plush adoptions.
