‘They’re going to be honored as heroes’: Honor walk held for brothers who died from Clifton house fire, donated organs

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Children’s National Hospital in D.C. honored two young brothers who donated their organs after they died from a house fire in Fairfax County, Va.

The two brothers were honored with with a donor hallway stroll as family, friends and hospital staff cheered. A donor flag-raising ceremony was then held outside the hospital, used to give credit to those who have provided organs in the case of death.

The brothers’ father, Jamey Brice, said he knows his boys are in heaven.

“We 100% know that William and Zachariah are in heaven right now,” he said “They’re leading us and guiding us to make a difference.”

The two brothers were 6 and 3 years old. They died Sunday, days after they were found following a two-alarm fire at the family’s house in Clifton, Va.

Brice said that he wanted the world to know that his boys helped save more lives after the family’s decision to donate their organs.

“They’re going to be honored as heroes,” Brice said of his children.

During the flag ceremony, music played and songs were sung with a word of wisdom and blessing from the Brice family pastor.

“Everybody out here loves these boys, loves this family,” said Josh Baird, the pastor of Love Church in Gainesville, Va., where the Brice’s attend.

He praised the hospital staff for taking “such great care” of the two brothers.

“We know that somebody else is praying prayers for a saved life,” Baird said of the organ donation during his prayer.

Tears were shared as friends and family remembered the young brothers.

“I can’t even put into words how strong they are,” Connor Woods, worship leader at Love Church, said about the Brice family. “Going through what they’ve gone through, I can’t even imagine.”

The response to the boy’s death has been significant, Woods said.

“It’s not just like the Brice’s church that’s rallying around. It’s everyone in the community and that’s really powerful,” he added.
