Police have confirmed that a second man has been arrested following the death of former Gogglebox star George Gilbey.

According to a report from BBC News, Essex Police have confirmed that a 36-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.

A 47-year-old man was also arrested over the same offence, but has since been released under investigation.

Officers added that a joint investigation between Essex Police and the Health and Safety Executive is still ongoing.

Gilbey, who was best known for appearing on Channel 4 series Gogglebox and Celebrity Big Brother, passed away aged 40 after a workplace accident in March this year.

According to an inquest held last month Gilbey's death was consistent with injuries sustained after falling from a height (via BBC News).

Following the news of Gilbey's death, Gogglebox aired a tribute to him on March 29. The episode ended with a memoriam card featuring a photograph of him alongside his mum Linda and late stepfather Pete.

Gilbey's friend and Celebrity Big Brother co-star Ricci Guarnaccio also issued a statement on behalf of Linda, saying she had been overwhelmed by the public's messages of support.

"Linda wants to say a huge thank you to everyone who has sent condolence. She just wants everyone to remember him for who he was. She's obviously hurt at the minute but it's hugely appreciated," Guarnaccio said (via The Independent).

He continued: "For the family, for Linda, she really, really wants everyone to know she's taken back. And she's getting shown a lot of the messages that come through because she doesn't really deal with Twitter and stuff.

"All the messages that people have been saying — all the stories, all the good times that George has brought to their lives, and all the funny memories they've got from Gogglebox and Big Brother — it does mean a lot to her. So if people could keep doing that, it would be appreciated."

Gogglebox airs and streams on Channel 4.
