GoFundMe for woman partially paralyzed at Mohawk Place raises more than $50K

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A fundraiser for a woman partially paralyzed in an incident at Mohawk Place has collected more than $50,000 in donations.

Last week, the lead singer of the band Trophy Eyes performed a stage dive into the crowd, resulting in 24-year-old fan Bird Piché falling to the ground and breaking her neck.

The band immediately shut down the show and at least one member went to the hospital with Piché.

Following emergency surgery, Piché now only has feeling in her arms, but is breathing on her arm.

News 4 spoke with Leo Wolters Tejera, a close family friend who hopes the road ahead is one of recovery for Piché.

“I really hope that the world gets to continue to see the vibrancy that Bird has to offer,” Wolters Tejera said.

Stage diving and crowd surfing are forbidden at Mohawk Place, and the general manager of the venue said Trophy Eyes was made aware of this.
