Godley man arrested for shooting death

May 9—Godley police arrested a man Wednesday night in connection with the shooting death of a woman.

Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Ronnie McBroom set the suspect's — John Tuttle, 60, of Godley — bond at $750,000 Thursday morning on a murder charge.

The victim, Danielle Carey, 40, of Godley, died at the scene.

Officers from Godley and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office responded at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of West Allen Avenue.

Carey called 911 to report that her boyfriend had shot her, JCSO detectives said.

Carey told dispatchers, "There's blood everywhere. Can you please help me?"

Dispatchers remained on the line but got not response from Carey past that point.

Godley police arrived on scene first followed by JCSO officers to find Tuttle in the backyard area of the RV he and Carey apparently shared.

Godley officers convinced Tuttle to drop the gun he was holding after which JCSO deputies approached from behind, tased and arrested him, officials said.

Because Tuttle was on scene and armed, rescue workers were unable to get to the porch where Carey was laying until he was safely taken into custody. Carey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers transported Tuttle to the Johnson County Jail but he was not questioned Wednesday night because of his level of intoxication, officials said.

Carey was shot in the head, officials said.
