Gmeiner asks for art donations for fundraiser

WELLSBORO, Pa. (WETM) — The Gmeiner Art and Cultural Center is asking for artwork donations of any kind for its auction fundraiser.

The Gmeiner will be accepting art like paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, ceramics, quilts, and more through March 27, with official drop-off times of 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on March 26 and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on March 27. The center will take old or new pieces that are in good condition, whether they were made by the donor or collecting dust in the donor’s home collection.

Those with items to donate should contact the Art’s Friends auction committee by emailing tracey.dwyer@gmail.com or calling 856-371-5112. They can also reach out to Gmeiner Director Carrie Heath at 570-724-1917 or director@gmeinerartculturalcenter.org. Donors will be required to fill out a donation form. Donations are tax-deductible, but the Gmeiner is not able to estimate the value of each artwork donated.

The Gmeiner will display the donations from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on April 6 and April 7. After that, the artworks will go up for auction on Jelliff’s Auction Group’s online platform until May 1. Members of Art’s Friends will help guests learn how to use the auction system while the items are on display so guests can bid on their favorite items.

The Gmeiner first auctioned off donated artwork last year and decided to try it again this year due to the success of its first fundraiser. The 2023 auction’s goal was to raise enough money to fund a summer art camp for kids, and it exceeded that goal. The Gmeiner was able to fund the camp and sponsor art classes, buy art supplies for children’s art takeaway packets, and buy iPads so the center could start offering digital art classes.
