Glenn Hills High School Teacher LuTongel Few being awarded the BigFuture Visionary Teacher Award

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – LuTongel Few was one of the three teachers out of over 100 nominations nationwide to win the BigFuture Visionary Teacher award.

“I just wanted to be the teacher that some kids I wish I had and that my mom was. I am overwhelmed like you couldn’t. I’m on cloud 9, 10, and 11, past the stratosphere. So yeah, I’m amazed right now. I feel so loved,” said LuTongel Few, Glenn Hills Science Teacher and Award Winner.

This award is for teachers who excel with the students by helping them with future college and career plans using Big Future.

“Her college, Mr. Roberts, nominated her and went through the exceptional things that she has been doing in the classroom and incorporating BigFuture into it, right? So, of course, we know as educators we have to incorporate our standards in there,” said Penny Damianeas, the Director of College Board K – 12 around the state of GA. “We have to make sure our kids are ready not just for the assessment but making sure that they are college and career ready. She takes that step further.”

A past colleague nominated her, and those around her could not agree more about her receiving this award.

“I nominated Mrs. Few because she’s truly an inspiration not just to the students but also to the teachers and the staff,” said Reverend Dennis Roberts Jr., who nominated Few and taught at Glenn Hills last year. “She’s always supportive. She goes above and beyond, and a lot of times she stays here hours and constantly helps because even when I was in school, she helped me out.”

The principal has seen great success with students when going through Few’s class.

“We’re a special kind of community, right? So we have a lot of extended family, students don’t actually live with mom and dad, and so when they come to this building, and they can find someone as nurturing and caring and actually care about their success, then they can’t find a better person than Mrs. Few,” said Valeria Smith, Principal of Glenn Hills High School.

She was also named Glenn Hills teacher of the year at the assembly.
