This girl had to call 911 because she got stuck in a Barney costume
Many of us have super fond memories of Barney, the purple and green dinosaur from our childhoods. He taught us how to share, how to clean, and how to get songs about said sharing and cleaning stuck in our heads basically forever. So it only makes sense that when 15-year-old Darby Risner saw this giant Barney head at a party this weekend, she wanted to reminisce a little by putting it on (obviously!).
She apparently wanted to scare her friends, and while they weren’t scared at all, she did get a few giggles. The plan went okay for a while (and made for some great tweets and snaps, which her brother shared with the world), but then it started to get old. As you can imagine, those costumes are HOT, and when she was unable to get the head off, she knew she might be in trouble.

The girls tried to help Darby get free from the costume, and even brought Mom in for reinforcement. However, when that didn’t work, they called 911, but were told that they could either have firefighters come to the house, sirens and all, or come in to the station themselves, since it wasn’t an immediate threat. They all loaded into a minivan (tbh, likely Barney’s preferred mode of transportation, anyway) and headed down to the fire station.
Vince Bruno, a 33-year-old Fire Lt. from Trussville, told AL.com, “When they walked in, you couldn’t help but start laughing. We tried to be professional, and she was a little distraught, but we had to giggle about it.”
She was freed from her purple trap in a professional, safe way and it was all documented for the world to see.

Darby, we’re so glad you’re safe from the clutches of the Barney head, and we hope that you never find yourself stuck in a costume again — at least not on a day that’s not Halloween.
