Georgia’s top child human trafficking prosecutor speaks in Columbus on how to combat the issue

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The State of Georgia’s top child human trafficking prosecutor spoke to a downtown Columbus civic club Wednesday afternoon.

Hannah Palmquist with the Georgia Attorney General’s Office spoke to the Rotary Club of Columbus about Georgia’s human trafficking problem, and how we combat it.

To Palmquist, it starts with awareness.

“First and foremost, it’s important that the general public is educated about this issue. We can’t fight human trafficking if we don’t understand human trafficking,” said Palmquist. “But additionally, civic organizations such as this are extremely powerful, and a lot of them are doing a lot of incredible work in the field of human trafficking.”

Palmquist has been in charge of the unit starting with its creation in 2019. Since January 2023, the unit has obtained 30 new convictions.

The Attorney General’s Office is now bringing cases across the state.

In 2023, the unit led and assisted in 81 case investigations. 129 victims were rescued and assisted.
