George H.W. Bush's 100th birthday celebration at Bush Family Home State Historic Site

May 14—George H.W. Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts on June 12, 1924. He was the 2nd child of Prescott Bush. Bush became U.S. President in 1989. Celebrate this milestone birthday at the Bush Family Home State Historic Site on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 5 pm to 8 pm. There will be music, a crazy sock contest, cookout and more. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for kids 12 and under.

Music will be provided by local band Five Years Apart. When Tripp Houck and Zach Lucas first met in the Summer 2023 they quickly realized they had a special musical connection. Their first jam session resulted in several hours of playing music together. Five Years Apart (5YA) formed shortly after with both Tripp and Zach playing guitar and drums, and Todd Houck playing bass. Five Years Apart has built a solid following playing throughout Midland/Odessa mixing rock classics with 90's alternative rock and post-2000 pop-punk.

After leaving the White House, George H.W. Bush began to wear fun socks, choosing bold patterns and bright colors to liven up his suits. When he started using a wheelchair in his later years, the former president's ankles were in clearer view at public events. The Bush Family Home will give homage to Bush by having a crazy sock contest. Don't worry if you don't have your own crazy socks. There will be a crazy sock table where you can make your own. Prizes will be given to the winners of the contest.

George H.W. Bush moved to West Texas in 1948 and lived in Midland from 1950-1959. The West Ohio Street house was the 2nd of three houses the Bush Family lived in the city. The home will be open for self-guided tours.

The Bush Family Home joined the Texas Historical Commission in 2023 and is one of 38 sites in the state of Texas. Its normal operating hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; the last tour begins at 4:15 p.m.
