(WDHN)- A Geneva County teen has survived the biggest “American Idol” cut.

Samson native and Kinston High School quarterback Brant McCollough competed in round 1 of “American Idol” Hollywood Week on Sunday night.

He went up against 142 other musical artists who earned golden tickets during auditions. During his performance on Sunday night McCollough performed “Stay” by Rihanna.

The contestants sat in the same arena facing each other and were randomly called individually to the stage to perform.

After it was all said and done, McCollough’s performance was good enough to earn him a spot in the “Showstoppers” round alongside 55 other performers.

You can catch the “Showstoppers” round on WDHN at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 1.
