Trooper shoots, kills man suspected of stealing mail during chase in Carroll County
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to a deadly shooting involving a law enforcement officer in Carroll County.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says that Georgia State Patrol was involved in a chase that led up to a shooting at Banks Circle and Highway 5.
During the shooting, Jason Scott Fletcher, 51 of Hogansville, was shot and killed, according to the GBI. No officers were injured.

Investigators say that just before 3 p.m., they were called to reports of mail being stolen on Little New York Road in Carrollton.
They tried pulling Fletcher over and he sped off.

Troopers tried using stop sticks, but Fletcher swerved his car and tried to hit the trooper.
A trooper fired his gun at Fletcher, hitting him. He was taken to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton where he died from his injuries.
