Gastonia City Council member steps down

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A member of the Gastonia City Council has announced he will be stepping down from his position.

“Yesterday I accepted a position with Orange County, North Carolina,” Robert Kellogg said in a social media post. “I will be working as part of their Street Outreach Harm Reduction and Deflection team. I am excited to be working with individuals experiencing homelessness in a very purposeful manner and it continues my passionate work for those who are marginalized and in crisis. Because the position is in Orange County, I will be relocating to the Durham area. I start my new position on May 6.”

Kellogg was elected in 2015 and is currently serving in his third term. According to his councilman’s bio, Kellogg moved to the area from upstate New York.

Kellogg said he’ll continue to serve for the remainder of the month.

“Thank you for almost two decades of memories and nine years of public service. You welcomed me and gave me the opportunity of a lifetime and I will be forever grateful. Please know that you and this city will always have a special place in my heart and your future is bright,” he said.
