'Game of Thrones' recap: Unleash the dragons!

Spoiler alert! If you have not seen Game of Thrones yet, you might want to stop reading this post, like, right now.

In what was, probably, the best episode of Season 7, we finally got to see Daenerys ride a dragon into battle! In the last 10 minutes of the show, there was an epic battle that is likely to be a stepping stone to a whole lot of awesomeness to finish out the the season. But before we get to the battle, let’s look at the other important things that happened in “The Spoils of War” episode.

Arya Returns to Winterfell

Arya finally returned to Winterfell, where she found Lady Sansa running the show, and Bran off by the tree being all Three-Eyed Raven-y. On the bright side, Bran also used his creepiness for good when he repeated something Littlefinger said to Varys back in Season 3. Littlefinger was talking to Bran about all the chaos in the world, and Bran said, “Chaos is a ladder.” But before that, Littlefinger gave Bran the Valyrian steel dagger that almost killed him. Then, Bran gave it to Arya, who used it to show everyone — including Sansa — how dangerous she is while training with Brienne.

Jon Goes Spelunking With Daenerys

Meanwhile, Jon and Daenerys were spelunking on Dragonstone, where Jon found some cave drawings that conveniently proved his point about the White Walkers. Daenerys agreed to fight for the North, but only if Jon bent the his knee. Jon explained that the Northern folk will never follow a Southern Queen, to which she replied, “Isn’t their survival more important than your pride?” If that sounds familiar, it’s because that is the exact same thing Jon asked Mance Rayder about the wildlings before Stannis burned Mance at the stake.

Daenerys Goes to Battle

Daenerys and Jon decided to put a pin in it for later, because she had a war to fight. After a couple of big wins for the Lannister army, Jamie finally ran into trouble when hoards of Dothraki ambushed them on their way back from Highgarden. And that’s when we finally saw the Mother of Dragons ride into battle and decimate the Lannister forces. With the dragon raining fire from above, and Dothraki fighters slicing through men in their iron suits on the ground, it was more of a slaughter than a battle — that is, until Bronn jumped on the realm’s largest crossbow and shot the dragon in the shoulder. The dragon had to land because of its wounded wing — leaving Daenerys vulnerable and Jamie with a crazy thought in his head.

Jamie Is an Idiot

Tyrion was looking on from a distance and quietly pleading with Jamie not to be an idiot, saying, “Flee, you idiot.” But Jamie did not flee; he rode his horse toward Daenerys and her dragon with a spear in his hand, and the hopes of ending the war right there. The dragon turned its head, and Jamie was about to be toast — until Bronn saved the day again. Unfortunately, he tackled Jamie off his horse and into the water, which is a bad place for a man to be when he’s wearing armor and has a solid gold hand. The episode ended with Jamie sinking down to the bottom of the river, leaving everyone wondering whether he would survive. It also left people wondering how a man can get tackled off his horse and fall into water that looks at least 20 feet deep.

Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 6 p.m. on HBO.
