'Game of Thrones' Stars Share Their Most Disgusting Days On Set
Game of Thrones is one of the most visually-stunning series to ever air on television, due in no small part to the beautiful locations around the world it’s filmed in. Yet, while it might be great to watch, it can be a pain to make. But don’t take our word for it, the stars told Yahoo TV as much. Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), and more told us about their most disgusting days on set.
“It was the scene where we fight the wildlings at the end of Season 3,” Harington answered rather quickly. “I betray the wildlings and I gallop off on a horse. It was three days of rain tower, [I had] a broken ankle, and it was the most miserable I think I’ve ever been. Game of Thrones, or otherwise. It was horrible.”
“It was definitely when we were filming the bear-fighting scene,” Christie said. “I was in that dress, and I was actually being hosed down for rehearsals as well. So [I] was soaking wet, covered in mud, and they had gale-force winds and torrential rain.”
“‘The Battle of the Bastards’ was particularly ugly,” offered Liam Cunningham, who plays Davos Seaworth. “It was just a mud bath, and so when you’ve got 700 extras running up and down, 70 horses, battle’s going on — it’s glorious to watch and a complete pain in the butt to shoot.”
John Bradley (Samwell Tarly) has proven himself to be no stranger to disgusting scenes in Season 7, but he picked a slightly older one: “The scene in [Season 6] where Sam and Gilly are on the boat and I had to keep cold vegetable soup in my mouth to be sick on cue.”
“I had a scene where I was in mud, I was being rolled around in mud, and Locke was kicking and beating me up,” Coster-Waldau said. “I had mud everywhere.”
“I remember it was in your mouth,” Christie added.
“It was in my mouth,” Coster-Waldau said. “It was in my ears. It was everywhere.”
Still, the winner may be Jacob Anderson, who plays Grey Worm. “The Unsullied are going through the tunnels to go and speak to the slaves. I slipped, fell in the quarry, and took quite a bit of water into my body,” he said. “For about two weeks — both ends.”
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
