GALLERY: Breckenridge Airshow returns with historic aircraft & performances after 6-year hiatus

BRECKENRIDGE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – After six years, Stephens County Airport was once again filled with the sounds and sights of historic aircraft as the 2024 Breckenridge Airshow prepared for takeoff.

The airshow showcased “Tora! Tora! Tora!” a reenactment of one of the pivotal battles that drew the United States into World War II: Pearl Harbor. The air was filled with the sounds of roaring planes as they swooped in and out above a fiery landscape representing explosions.

The event also included David Martin’s acrobatic show, flyovers by Big Iron Warbirds, and the B-25 Yellow Rose. In addition to the aerial displays, attendees had the opportunity to view war memorabilia, meet pilots, and even take a ride in the B-25 Yellow Rose.

Leland Kracher, owner and lead pilot of the NextGen Eagles, said it was a great show to be a part of and something he won’t forget.

“The history of this airport in particular, and what aviation and Breckenridge mean to the airshow and aerobatic and racing community is unparalleled. So, having the opportunity to come out here and showcase these amazing aircraft at this amazing airport is something we’ll never forget. We’re very, very happy to be here,” Kracher said.

He mentioned his delight in seeing the community come out to support this event, especially after the six-year gap.

“To be able to bring back the airshow and see the response from the community is already unbelievable. So to see what this means to this community and the general greater area of this West Texas side is unbelievable. To see the power that it carries; I hope it’s here to stay for every year for the future,” Kracher said.
