Fundraiser launched for victim in Wyoming attack

A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $1,000 for a Wyoming High School student assaulted by his classmates last year.

An Enquirer report showed that the teen's family has been billed over $500 for counseling services the teen has received at school since the attack. Two of his classmates have pleaded guilty, and the third is awaiting trial.

The group called the Community Organization to Protect Wyoming Neighborhood Schools launched the fundraiser Monday. As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe has raised $1,056.

"Unfortunately, the school district has ceased funding for third-party counseling services," the group said. "As a community, we believe in supporting our own. Let’s rally together to provide the necessary resources for this brave student’s healing journey."

The group said all proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the family.

Last April, the teen was attacked during a junior varsity baseball practice. Prosecutors said the then-freshmen dragged the victim into the locker room four times as he tried to escape. Inside, they assaulted the victim, he said.

One of the teen was initially charged with rape, but that youth later pleaded guilty to felonious assault and was sentenced to probation. Another teen has pleaded guilty but has not yet been sentenced. The third teen charged in the attack is scheduled to go to trial on June 3.
