Fun events planned for the weekend in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It’s time to take a look at several activities happening across the greater Memphis area this weekend.

Of course, both barbecue festivals are happening this weekend– The Smoke Slam at Tom Lee Park and The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest at Liberty Park. But there are also so many other things happening this weekend for you to enjoy.

For starters, Friday is the 901 Student Passport Kick-Off Kickback. The student passport allows students free admission to dozens of museums in the area. The kickoff event is at the Rock `n` Soul Museum from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Passports can be used starting May 28. You can pick them up at any local YMCA.

Friday night, you have a chance to preview the first episode of the new HBO docuseries featuring Stax. Stax: Soulsville, U.S.A. tells the story of the record label becoming one of the most influential producers of Black music. The preview is at the Crosstown Theater. Tickets are $20.

Saturday, the Memphis Grizzlies are hosting a garage sale in the lobby of FedExForum. This will be from 10 am. until 3 p.m. You will be able to purchase Grizzlies memorabilia, autographed items, sneakers, and more. The money will be used to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

If you have been feeling the pain at the pump, Saturday you can get gas for $1.76 a gallon. A new gas station is opening in Senatobia and to celebrate, they are offering the deal for regular unleaded fuel from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. This is at the 76 on Matthews Drive.

On Saturday and Sunday, it is the Annual Cooper Young Garden Walk. This is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. More than 100 gardens will be on display for you to enjoy. Tickets are $#=26.
