Frozen pizzas sold in NY recalled due to misbranding, undeclared allergens. What to know

Frozen pizza lovers: check your freezers!

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is recalling Vermont-based 802 VT Frozen pizzas due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the agency announced Friday.

During routine verification activities, the FSIS found the soy-containing product's label to not include the common allergen.

Here's what to know about the recall.

What to look for

The mislabeled pizza boxes read "802 VT Frozen MEAT!!! CRISPY WOOD-FIRED CRUST HAND MADE PIZZA" on the front and were distributed to retailers and fundraisers in seven states — New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Produced from April 25, 2023 through April 25, 2024, the recalled pizzas have "best if used by" dates of April 25, 2024 through April 25, 2025 and establishment number EST. 46308 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

"We take our product and customer safety very seriously," 802 VT Frozen owner Hilarie Wright said in a written statement. "We did a voluntary recall to look out for our customers. There is a minimal amount of soy protein in our product. That being said we are working to ensure correct labeling on our product moving forward. We have had zero complaints on our product."

What to do if you've purchased the recalled product

While there have not been any confirmed reports of adverse reactions from eating the mislabeled product, the FSIS advises consumers against eating the pizzas and to throw them away or return to where you purchased them.

If you're concerned about an illness, be sure to contact your healthcare provider.

And if you have any questions about the recall, you can contact 802 VT Frozen owner Hilarie Wright at 802-274-1177 or hilarie26@gmail.com.
