Friends look back on memories with former Shocker baseball player Carl Hall

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Family and friends are remembering the life of former Wichita State University Shocker baseball player Carl Hall after his death on March 3.

“To hear that that happened, you know we lost one of the best people I’ve ever known,” friend Kip Pulliam said.

“Well, Carl was a great player for us. He was an All-American conference player of the year in 1994. Just an inspiration, positive energy, great player,” friend Brent Kemnitz said.

Hall played for Wichita State from 1991 to 1994 and was inducted into the Shocker Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Wichita Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. He overcame adversity after a car accident in 2010 that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

“I think the thing that signifies who he is, after the car accident he never lost these things. He still had a great sense of humor, a positive outlook. We named our clubhouse players’ entrance after Carl Hall because he epitomized what Wichita State baseball is all about,” Kemnitz said.

Pulliam says Hall was one of the first people he met when he came to Campus High School.

“He was one of the greatest athletes that ever came out of Campus High School. So he was one guy that we just looked up to, and he was great to be around,” Pulliam said.

Hall is remembered not only for his athletic career but also as a loving father and husband. Hall and his family were also recipients of an “Extreme Home Makeover” in 2011. Hall was 53 years old.
