Friends of Illinois stabbing victims hold vigil

STORY: Ramona Schupbach, 63, and Jacob Schupbach, 23, were among the victims.

Shon Miller, a friend of Jacob, expressed disbelief, saying, "this is hard. I've lost people before, but this, this is different. This, this hurts." Miller cried as he signed a cross dedicated to Jacob.

U.S. postal worker Jay Larson was also killed. Friend Lawrence Stuart emphasized his commitment to his community: "from his friends at the post office, from his union brothers and sisters. The worst of times can bring out the best in us. So I hope and pray that this feeling of togetherness, this feeling of family, this feeling of love continues, so that these people would not have died in vain," Stuart said.

The suspect, 22-year-old Christian Soto, remains in custody. Rockford police said a motive for the stabbings is still to be determined.

Soto faces four counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder, as well as two counts of home invasion with a dangerous weapon, Winnebago County State's Attorney J. Hanley said.
