FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Data collected from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the National High Safety Traffic Administration (NHSTA) shows that Fresno County is the tenth most dangerous county to drive in.

Numbers from 2017 to 2022 were collected in a study to find the highest death rate on roads throughout the United States. Fresno County placed number 10 among counties with a population of 500,000 or more. The survey named Highway 180 as Fresno County’s deadliest road with 55 fatalities on that road between 2017 and 2021.

Additionally, four of those top 10 counties were in California: Kern County, San Bernadino County and Stanislaus County.

Kern County’s I-5 was number three most deadly with 72 fatalities between 2017 and 2021, San Bernardino County’s I-15 was number seven most deadly with 204 fatalities between 2017 and 2021, and Stanislaus County’s Highway 99 was number nine most deadly with 47 fatalities between 2017 and 2021.
