French Quarter Easter Parade returns for 2024

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The return of the French Quarter Easter Parade finally arrived, and for many, it’s truly a wonderful event to spend with family.

“Quality time together. Spending time with the kids, it is colorful, fun, it’s joyful. It’s just an amazing day and the sun always shines on Easter Sunday,” said Kim Guillory.

One parade attendee says there is a special meaning behind her outfit and coming to the parade.

“Mine is actually for my grandmother’s dresses. She loved coming to New Orleans. So, I thought I would bring her back out to New Orleans,” said Robin Hobbs.

For others, the name of the parade may have changed, but in their eyes, it will always be the Chris Owens Easter Parade. They say she’ll always be remembered as a true icon to the New Orleans area.

“I am so glad they are still celebrating her legacy. I didn’t really get to go to her club, unfortunately, but I have seen her in parades,” said Joy Kampen.

“I’ve seen her in parades too. She is a remarkable lady, if I could only do what she has done in her lifetime,” said Kathy Hadley.

One business owner says not only does she get to put a smile on her customer’s faces, but being on the parade route increases business.

“Especially the little girls. I put it right on them and they just light up when they look in the mirror. It’s a great business boost, I am really blessed to be right here and watching all the wonderful bonnets. The city is so wonderful,” said Terri Antholznar.
