French bulldog is Detroit's most popular dog breed in 2023

For the third year in a row, the French bulldog has been ranked as Detroit's most popular pup in the American Kennel Club’s 2023 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

Playful and adaptable with an even temperament, the French bulldog's nationwide popularity has continued to grow, taking the spot of America's most popular pooch for the second consecutive year.

While they didn't place into the top 10, Detroit's favor of the beagle has skyrocketed from #27 in 2022 to #12 in 2023.

“Beagles are a great addition to families, especially ones that already have other dogs,” said American Kennel Club executive secretary Gina DiNardo.  “It is not a surprise they jumped up to the 12th spot this year.”
