France Pledges €100 Million in Loan Support for Farmers

(Bloomberg) -- France will provide at least €100 million ($107 million) in loans or guarantees to help support farmers via state-owned investment bank Bpifrance, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s office said on Saturday.

Other pledges include a reduction in a land tax and a simplification in approvals for water-retention projects.

Farmers in the European Union’s biggest agricultural producer protested for several weeks early this year over rising costs, stringent regulations and cheap imports. Attal made a series of promises to farmers in January and February to defuse those protests.
