Denver police officers will not pull drivers over for minor traffic infractions that do not pose an immediate threat to public safety, like expired tags or driving with a headlight out. The goal of the policy change is not only to prioritize the enforcement of safety-related traffic offenses and improve response times to other calls but also to limit the adverse impact often associated with strict enforcement of low-level offenses and to improve public trust.

2. Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre held its first concert of the season last weekend. Who played?

Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre opened its concert season with Billy Strings, a bluegrass singer and songwriter. Concerts will take place at Fiddler’s Green until October.

3. Which Denver Nuggets player missed the most shots in Game 7 on Sunday?

Coming in with a 20% three-point percentage, Nikola Jokic was not able to pull the Denver Nuggets into the Western Conference finals. While Jokic missed the most shots for the team, Jamal Murray was not too far off.

4. Where did hailstorms hit Colorado on Monday?

Severe storms on Monday night pelted northeast Colorado with damaging hail that shattered windows and covered the ground like snow in the plains community of Yuma. While the storm passed after Monday, residents of Yuma were still dealing with the aftermath for days to come.

5. What U.S. 50 bridge is set to partially reopen in July?

The U.S. 50 bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir has been closed since April 18 after inspectors found cracks in the steel. The southwest Colorado bridge is set to reopen with limited traffic on July 4.

6. What flower — that smells like decaying flesh — is set to bloom soon in Colorado?

For the first time, a corpse flower named Cosmo is set to bloom this weekend at Colorado State University. This is a rare sight — and smell — because Cosmo has been growing for more than seven years for this moment. When he blooms, the scent is said to smell like “decaying flesh.” After the bloom, the corpse flower will not bloom again for another three to five years.

7. How many people are expected to travel through Denver International Airport on Memorial Day weekend?

Denver International Airport expects over 450,000 people to pass through security, with 80,000 each day on Thursday and Friday, which is around 9% more than during Memorial Day weekend in 2023.

8. NOAA released its summer forecast outlook. What did it say about Colorado?

According to NOAA, Colorado will see above-average heat, but some parts of the state will be hotter than others. The northeastern half of the state is leaning above average with a 33% to 50% change. The bottom half of the state will likely be above average.

9. According to a new report from U.S. News & World Report, which two Colorado cities are among the best places to live?

U.S. News & World Report released its annual “Best Places to Live in the U.S.” list for 2024-25 ranked on the following indices: affordability, happiness, health care quality, retiree taxes, desirability and job market. Among the top 10 were Colorado Springs at No. 3 and Boulder at No. 10.

10. How was the law changed this week for Colorado’s young drivers?

House Bill 24-1021 was signed into law in mid-May. In short, it will increase the education hours required before drivers under 18 can be issued an instruction permit.
