FOND DU LAC – Fox Valley Chorus claimed first place at the regional Sweet Adeline competition May 2 to 4 in Rochester, Minnesota.

The convention was attended by about 400 members from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa and Canada. Twelve choruses competed.

Fox Valley Chorus has 28 members who performed at the competition. The group opened with “Beer Barrel Polka,” wearing German costumes.

The win earns the group a 10th appearance at the Sweet Adeline International competition, to be held in October 2025. They will compete against more than 30 other choruses from across the globe.

Women of all ages are invited to visit the chorus when they resume their Tuesday rehearsals May 21. Rehearsals are 7 to 9 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Church St., Neenah. Caramel Crisp welcomes local authors to Children's Book Fair

The Caramel Crisp Bookstore will host a Local Authors Children’s Book Fair on May 19. The fair will run 1 to 4 p.m. at 200 City Center, Oshkosh.

This year’s book fair will feature new faces along with returning favorites.

Authors scheduled to attend include Bob Allen, Deb Biechler, Tim Fox, Michele Bohnert, Cassandra Kohanski, Sierra Burchby, Ginny Gillmam, Jacqueline Paske Gill, Mary Ann Noe, Susan Drexler, and Erin and Kent Barnard.

Also attending are caricature artist Ray Rocker, and Elle Binder will bring her handmade bookmarks. Kids can help create a bookmark to take home.

During the fair, the bookstore will collect books for all ages to be donated to the Winnebago Area Literacy Council.

Celebrate World Turtle Day May 23 with J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue will mark World Turtle Day with a celebration May 23. It will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the rescue, 976 American Drive, Suite 1, Neenah.

The rescue takes in an average of 180 turtles each year. The goal of the event is to raise awarness and support efforts to conserve them.

Educational activities and a chance to meet the turtles at the rescue will be included.
