UPDATE: Fatal I-57 semi, SUV crash victims identified as family

TUSCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — The victims of the fatal I-57 crash Friday evening have been identified. According to the Douglas County Coroner, they were all members of the same family.

Quyen Nguyen, 53 of Elgin, Phuong Nguyen, 58 of Bartlett, Dung Nguyen, 63 of Bartlett, and Tham Nguyen, 68 who was visiting from Vietnam were all killed in the crash.

Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate and said they are unable to share more details at this time.


Update at 7:45 p.m.

TUSCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — State Police also said on social media there are “significant traffic delays” on southbound I-57 near Tolono due to the crash. They ask motorists to seek alternate routes if possible.


TUSCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) — State Police are responding to a crash on southbound I-57 with multiple deaths.

The crash happened in Douglas County near Tuscola around 4:30 p.m. Officials said the crash involved an SUV and a semi-truck. Four people are confirmed dead and one person has been seriously injured, according to State Police.

Officials said the semi-truck was travelling northbound when it crossed over the median and hit the SUV.

State Police are directing southbound traffic off the highway and onto U.S. Route 45 at Pesotum while they investigate. Officials expect the road to be closed at least for four hours.
