Found grenade turned into Eau Claire County jail

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – A bomb squad was called over the weekend after some people brought what they thought was a grenade to the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Dave Riewestahl says the item was found near the Chippewa River Sunday evening (4/21/24). Two people brought it near the jail lobby to turn it in. The Marathon County Bomb Squad was called and the scene was secured until the bomb squad arrived and removed it. The bomb squad was not able to determine if it was live or not, due to its rusted and deteriorated condition.

The sheriff says in the future, they ask people to leave these types of items where they were found and *then contact law enforcement.
