Fort Wainwright soldier killed, another injured, in weekend rollover crash on Parks Highway

May 20—A soldier stationed at Fort Wainwright was killed and another was injured in a single-vehicle crash over the weekend on the Parks Highway near Nenana, according to Alaska State Troopers and the U.S. Army Alaska.

Troopers got a report early Saturday morning about a single-vehicle rollover near Mile 294 of the Parks Highway, troopers said in an online statement. Pfc. Cierra Nglias Truce, 19, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, troopers said. Her next of kin were notified. Truce was the passenger in the vehicle, the Army said in a statement Monday evening.

The driver, also a Fort Wainwright soldier, was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital in Fairbanks, the Army and troopers said. The accident is still under investigation, troopers said in their statement.

Truce was from Koror City in the Republic of Palau, and was a supply specialist with the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division, the Army said. She joined the U.S. Army in March 2023 and was stationed at Fort Wainwright in August that same year.

"Pfc. Truce was a high performing member of the Bobcat Battalion, and her loss is devastating across the formation," Lt. Col. Jon Doiron, 1-5 Infantry Battalion commander, said in the Army's statement. "Her tragic death truly impacts the entire Bobcat family, and our support and prayers go out to all of those who considered Cierra friend or family."
