Former Union County teacher charged with indecent liberties with a student

UNION COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A former middle school teacher has been arrested on sex-related crimes with students, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into Max Martin, 26, who is a former teacher at Piedmont Middle School, began after students reported inappropriate requests from Martin on his social media accounts.

Detectives were able to speak with several victims and witnesses in connection to the initial reports, in addition to collecting evidence.

Martin has been charged with indecent liberties with a child and indecent liberties with a student. He’s being held in the Union County Detention Center. His bond has not yet been set.

The investigation remains open and ongoing.

“I commend the victims who came forward during this investigation for their bravery and resilience. The deputies, detectives, and Crime Lab personnel who are actively investigating this case have done excellent work,” Sheriff Eddie Cathey said in a released statement Wednesday. “My office remains committed to ensuring the safety of our local students and staff members.”
