Former Putnam County correctional officer charged with official misconduct

PUTNAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A former correctional officer with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office was taken into custody Thursday for official misconduct.

According to the sheriff’s office, Putnam County detectives received a true bill from the Putnam County Grand Jury for Anthony Wayne Chandler on Monday, April 8, following a month-long investigation.

Authorities said they found evidence that Chandler was bringing illegal contraband into the county’s jail facility for some of the inmates.

On Thursday, April 11, officials said Chandler was arrested on his criminal indictment and charged with one count of official misconduct. His bond has been set at $10,000 ahead of his Aug. 22 court date.

“This incident is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I am grateful for the good citizens of Putnam County for assisting our Detectives with this internal investigation in which this matter will be resolved,” Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris stated.

No additional details have been released about the investigation that led to Chandler’s arrest.
