Former Northern California teacher pleads no contest to sex with student, prosecutors say

(FOX40.COM) — A former teacher in Gridley pleaded no contest to having sex with a teenage student in June 2021, according to the Butte County District Attorney’s Office.

The former teacher, Michelle Solis, changed her plea during a Tuesday morning preliminary hearing, prosecutors said.

District Attorney Mike Ramsey said the former teacher “friended” the student on Instagram and messaged him in the weeks before his 8th-grade graduation, including sending him four explicit photos, before having intercourse with him in a locked classroom the day of the graduation.

Gridley Police began investigating in October 2023 after rumors and copies of the photos began circulating in the community, and the former teacher was arrested the following month.

The DA said that, as part of the plea deal, the former teacher would be registered as a sex offender and could face up to four years in prison. Her sentencing is scheduled for June 6.
