Former McCreary County assistant principal indicted for sex crimes

Mar. 28—WHITLEY CITY, Ky. — A former McCreary County school administrator has been indicted by a McCreary grand jury for multiple counts related to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

Aaron Anderson, 51, of Strunk, Kentucky, has been indicted on charges of third-degree Rape, Unlawful Transaction with a Minor, Sex Act with Victim Under 16; third-degree Solicitation to Commit Sodomy; and first-degree Official Misconduct.

The charges stem from an investigation launched by Kentucky State Police and the {span}Cabinet for Health and Family Services Department of Community Based Services, which investigates abuse complaints.

Anderson had most recently been an assistant principal but resigned from the position at McCreary Central High School on February 27, according to a report published by the Lexington Herald-Leader.

According to the same Lexington Herald-Leader report, Anderson was previously the assistant superintendent of McCreary County Schools, but had his teaching certificate suspended in 2017 by the Educational Professional Standards Board after an investigation determined that Anderson had engaged in sexual activity with an adult on a school bus during an elementary school basketball tournament.

With his indictment Monday, Anderson was booked into the Whitley County Detention Center on Tuesday, March 26, and subsequently bonded out.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in McCreary County Circuit Court on April 8 at 11 a.m.
