Former El Paso school district employee sentenced to federal prison for kidnapping

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A man from Anthony, New Mexico, has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for a kidnapping that took place in 2021. Jeffrey Steven Clay, a former employee and school principal with the El Paso Independent School District, was sentenced after his May 2023 conviction on one count of kidnapping and one count of transportation for illegal sexual activity.

According to the indictment, in August 2021, Clay offered to give the victim a ride to her friend’s house in El Paso. Instead, Clay took the victim to his residence in Anthony, handcuffed her, beat her, and raped her. When Clay drove the victim away later that day, she escaped from the vehicle at a traffic light and ran to a convenience store for help.
