Former Addis police officer turns himself in after guilty plea in deadly crash
WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) – A former Addis police officer has turned himself in at the West Baton Rouge jail after pleading guilty to charges in connection to a crash that killed two teenage girls.
Sgt. Landon Groger with the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office confirmed that David Cauthron turned himself in around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 23. Court officials said he pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and one count of negligent injuring.
A deadly crash on LA-1 on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, during a chase involving a suspect named Tyquel Zanders took the lives of Margaret “Maggie” Dunn, 17, and Caroline Gill, 15.
During the chase, an Addis police unit T-boned a vehicle turning onto LA 1, police said. Cauthron was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 1.
