Florida man facing 15 years after jury finds him guilty of ramming ATV with truck

HOLMES COUNTY, Fla (WDHN) — A Westville, Florida man has been found guilty of intentionally ramming his truck into an ATV and could face 15 years in prison.

On Thursday, a Holmes County Jury found 31-year-old Jesse Hicks guilty of Aggravated Battery and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries. The jury deliberated for only 20 minutes.

According to the Florida State Attorney, Hicks was driving Arrant Road when he intentionally hit an ATV with a man on it, pushing it and the unidentified victim into a ditch, where it flipped.

Attorneys say the victim, who had never met Hicks before, had been out with his wife and 2-year-old granddaughter at the lake.

Hicks fled the scene but was later caught nearby by Florida Highway Patrol and deputies with the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

Prosecutors are asking Judge Colby Peel to sentence Hicks to 15 years in prison based on him being a Prison Releasee Reoffender. Hicks had been released from prison in October 2022, just six months before his arrest.

Judge Peel set a sentencing for April 2024.
