Florida man bitten by 11-foot alligator while walking dog

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An 11-foot alligator attacked a Florida man while he was reportedly walking his dog near a pond over the weekend.

NBC affiliate WBBH said the man was taking an evening stroll with his dog near Immokalee Road in Collier County Friday when the alligator bit his leg.

The man was taken to the hospital for his injuries. The severity of his injuries is unknown at this time.

A Nuisance Alligator Trapper with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) was called to the area to remove the alligator.

As alligator mating season ramps up in Florida, residents should be vigilant near ponds and waterways or walking their pets.

During mating season, which occurs from April until June, male gators tend to become more aggressive.

Anyone who sees an alligator that appears to be a threat to people, pets, or property should call the FWC’s Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 1-866-392-4286.
