Florence man caught with nearly 500 grams of methamphetamine, deputies say

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 41-year-old Florence man was arrested Thursday after he was caught with nearly 500 grams of methamphetamine, authorities said.

Desmond Renado Gurley was found with approximately 479 grams of meth at a home in the 500 block of Carver Street, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said. His arrest on a charge of trafficking meth was part of an undercover operation that included deputies, Florence police and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Under South Carolina law, trafficking in more than 400 grams of meth is a felony punishable by not less than 25 years and not more than 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $200,000.

Gurley is in the Florence County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
