Florence man accused of strangling woman in front of their daughter

FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Florence man is facing multiple charges including criminal domestic violence and kidnapping after allegedly strangling a woman he lived with in front of their daughter, police said.

Dominique Brockington, 35, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, kidnapping, resisting arrest and unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person.

Florence police responded at about 11:50 p.m. Friday to the 700 block of Marion Street for a domestic situation, authorities said. When they arrived, they saw a woman at the front window of the house, telling officers the front door would not open and that she needed to get out of the house.

Brockington then came over and told officers that everything was fine and to leave the property, according to police. The woman then tried to open the window and leave when Brockington allegedly pulled her away and locked the window.

Shortly after, police forced their way through the front door and escorted the woman out of the home, authorities said. After learning Brockington had allegedly assaulted her, he was arrested in a bedroom of the home where he resisted.

The woman told police Brockington strangled her and she had swelling and scratches on her neck, according to an arrest warrant. Brockington and the woman live together, and the woman was holding their daughter when he pulled her away from the window.

Brockington has two prior convictions for domestic violence in the past 10 years, according to the warrant. He was booked into the Florence County Detention Center just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
