Flood watch in effect Friday for cities, counties in Shenandoah Valley

National Weather Service has issued a flood watch in effect from 3 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday.

WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

WHERE: Portions of Virginia, including the following areas, Albemarle, Augusta, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Culpeper, Eastern Highland, Greene, Madison, Nelson, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Orange, Page, Rappahannock, Rockingham, Shenandoah and Warren and eastern West Virginia, including the following areas, Eastern Pendleton and Hardy.

WHEN: From 3 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday.

IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Repetitive rounds of slow moving showers and thunderstorms moving along a stalled front this afternoon and evening. Three to six hour flash flood guidance within the watch area sits at one to three inches. Rainfall amounts of one to three inches are possible with localized amounts up to four inches.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS: You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
