First week of Schuback trial wraps up

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Day five in court has wrapped up for the trial of Old Forge resident Justin Schuback. He’s accused of killing restaurant owner Robert Baron in 2017.

Some compelling arguments were made in court today by the defense.

The defense pressed state police Corporal Greg Allen on the stand about there being other suspects in the case. Allen testified that there were many persons of interest throughout the investigation, but evidence, including DNA and cell phone location data, only pointed to Schuback’s involvement as the one and only suspect.

Allen said all of the other persons of interest cooperated with police, and their stories lined up with witnesses and other evidence collected, so they were ruled out. The defense argued that people who are guilty tend to cooperate with law enforcement. Others taking the stand today were a state police DNA forensic scientist and a forensic anthropologist.

The trial picks back up next week here at the Lackawanna County Courthouse.
