NEW YORK (PIX11) — The weather around the tri-state area is starting to heat up, which means summer is on the way.

The first official day of summer will be on June 20, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, marking the start of the Summer Solstice, which will happen at 4:51 p.m.

When do NYC beaches open for the season?

The Summer Solstice is when the North Pole is at a tilt at about 23.5 degrees toward the sun, making it the longest day of the year, according to the almanac.

The final day of summer will be on Sept. 22.
