Firefighters have tackled a rubbish fire which is believed to have been caused by a bonfire.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a pile of domestic and commercial rubbish alight in Northfleet, Gravesend, at 05:25 BST on Sunday.

Two fire engines were deployed and firefighters used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

“No injuries were reported, and it is believed the fire was caused accidentally due to the spread of a bonfire on a building site,” a spokesman said.

Meanwhile, five fire engines were sent to a garage fire in Southfleet, Gravesend, at 19:22 on Saturday.

No injuries were reported, but the cause of the fire is not yet known, a fire service spokesman said.

Kent Police were also in attendance.
