Firefighters OK after engine rolls on icy I-75

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Five firefighters from central Michigan are OK after a fire engine was involved in a rollover crash Wednesday morning on I-75.

According to MLive, a Mt. Morris Township Fire Department crew was responding to one of several crashes on the icy highway when it rolled near Mt. Morris Road.

The Michigan Department of Transportation issued an alert just after 8 a.m. that the highway was limited to one lane. The lanes were cleared and reopened around 9:15 a.m.

“We’d like to take a moment and thank everyone on their prayers following this morning’s accident on I-75,” the Mt. Morris Township Fire Department said in a Facebook post. “All five firefighters involved suffered some knocks but are OK. We will still continue to give prayers of thanks in this incident and wish the firefighters and their families well.”

Several neighboring fire departments passed along their well-wishes as the startling photo made the rounds on social media on Wednesday.

“Thoughts and prayers (for) our brothers and sisters in the north end of the county after one of their engines was involved in a rollover accident this morning,” the Grand Blanc Township Fire Department posted.

The Burton Fire Department said: “We are extremely thankful to hear that our fellow brothers and sisters of the Mt. Morris Township Fire Department only sustained minor injuries after today’s rollover accident.”
